Natural gas cogeneration enables the production of two forms of energy, thermal and electrical, simultaneously. It therefore makes maximum use of the energy contained in natural gas, reducing waste.
In detail, a cogeneration plant consists of a cycle engine powered by natural gas. From the combustion of that gas, mechanical energy is generated, which is conveyed to an alternator generating low-voltage electricity, which is subsequently transformed to medium voltage.
Heat recovery occurs on two fronts:
- From the engine cooling water
- From the exhaust fumes at 400°.
